BALF - what a sport we've created! If you've just 'found' this site, you probably have many questions. Since BALF began in 1994, many of the rules, procedures and equipment design have been based on the input from those that have taken the time to learn about the sport, play a game or two and help it grow to where it is today.
We are a product of many people - from Golf Course owners to Elementary School children. Every question is important. Every suggestion is given its just due. That being said, take a moment to browse our site and look for the answers that many have asked. If you seek additional information, do not hesitate to contact us. If you'd like to comment, send along an e-mail.
Above all else, if you have not played the sport of BALF, do so. It is an enjoyable (and addicting) experience.
Yours in BALF,
Mark Schuster, Clatmaster and BALF Creator.
What is BALF?
The game, founded by Mark Schuster in 1994, originated in Crafton, a suburb of Pittsburgh. This game is played on a regulation golf course with a regulation golf ball. It is a sport not intended to be a replacement for golf, but an alternative. It is another way to be able to be part of the most beautiful places in the country.
Who can play?
Baseball and softball players will love this game. Anyone who is fond
of the beautiful golf courses in this country will love this game!
Are Golf Clubs used?
No. The BALFer uses a BALFclat® driver and a BALFclat® putter, specifically made for the Sport of BALF by Louisville Slugger. A BALFclat® is a combination CLub and bAT. The BALFclat® driver is used to drive the ball down the fairway to the green. The BALFclat® putter is like the driver, but has a putter on the end.
What other equipment is required?
Regulation golf balls are used. No special shoes are required. Golf or batting gloves are good if one is blister prone.
In general, how does one play?
At the tee, one tosses the a golf ball into the aire and hits it down the fairway with the BALFclat® driver. Sandtraps? The rough? No problem! Walk up to your lie, pick it up, toss it into the air, and hit it again. When on the green, one putts as in golf with the BALFclat® putter. No tees. No divots.
